Even though I'm a woman in my 50s, I still deeply connected to everything that Gabby and Gordon were going through.
And I just sat back and really enjoyed the lyricism
and the specific writing that you achieved on the page.
So congratulations, Lillian.
And needless to say, I will definitely be reading your next one.
Hello, listeners, and welcome.
My name is Cassie Hamer.
I'm your host for this episode of Talking Aussie Books.
I'm also a Sydney-based author of four novels, and it's my pleasure to be speaking today with fellow Sydney author Diane Yarwood about her second novel, Margaret Are You Leaving?
I love Diane's first book, The Wakes, for its heart, its humour, and its mouth watering food descriptions.
Couple of years on, I'm still thinking about the Lemon Tart.
For a debut novel, The Wakes was a huge success, option for screen by the company that adapted Big Little Lies and also praised by the likes of Sally Hepworth and Leanne Moriarty.
And I'm delighted to say that Margaret, Are You Leaving?
while completely different in subject matter.
also offers a similar warmth, humanity, and life-affirming tone that Dai established in the wakes.
Dai, welcome back to Talking Aussie Books.
And when we last spoke, you said that the reality of publishing your first novel more than surpassed the dream.
So I'm wondering what is it like the second time around?
really depressing thing sometimes about being an author is that it doesn't get easier with each book.
And you would think it should because you've done one so you know how to write the next one.
