On Hale in a Bucket, which is that first fishing vessel I mentioned, they cruise around the area, they drink champagne, they take in the sunset, and just known from text messages, Martha was in a friends group, as most of us would be, and messages have been going back and forth in this friends group to which he wasn't responding to for a period of about an hour.
And at one point somebody in that group actually texted.
Then maybe Martha's phone's dead or she's dead.
Joking.
She eventually pings back and says, We were out on the boat, we're back at the marina and this is about nine thirty.
We know that's nine thirty from those messages.
So they get back to the marina and they get on to the second vessel, a smaller yacht sleeps about four to six people, small by yacht standards.
And according to what Mr Dernan l later told his lawyer, they were discussing business for about an hour.
Martha had told her boyfriend, Neku said was out of town that she planned to take an Uber home by one AM.
Just before midnight, a chaotic scene transpires on that slipway from reports from eyewitnesses.
They saw Mr Dernan coming running down the slipway completely naked.
He's screaming and shouting for help and he's throwing bottles of of sun cream at neighbouring vessels.
to try and get their attention s these people who are nearby, they come out to see what's going on, they run to him to help and they go to the boat where Martha Nolan is lying unresponsive and a bystander calls nine one and the authorities come to that boat, the emergency services.
And when they get to the scene they pronounce Martha Nolan dead.
So the initial investigation by the local police determined that there were no signs of violence.
There was a post mortem done, the results of which were not made public.
Statements were taken.
Obviously, Martha Nolan's family were told back in Ireland what had happened.
Her mother, Elma, received a phone call from a detective telling her that her daughter had died.
They go to the States, obviously, to find out what.
