There were these swifts that were just doing their murmurating, you know, and they just fly and land and they're doing that kind of squawky cry that they do.
But it sounds sort of weirdly joyful and very busy.
And I just sat there in this chair watching these Swifts dancing and flying and zooming around me.
And I started filming it for Annabelle because we'd done this beautiful project about six months before on Swifts.
And we'd made these Swifts and we'd hung them from the ceiling of the community centre.
And we talked about how Swifts were the kind of perfect metaphor for the migratory world.
journeys and the idea of there being no borders and these birds that fly and never land apart from when they're having babies and so we were both kind of weirdly quite into Swifts anyway so that morning I was filming the Swifts thinking I'll send this to Annabelle not realising of course that she was already dead and had been killed the night before
Actually, when I landed back in London and my husband picked me up from the airport and I told him about the Swifts and I told him about the little bit of filming that I'd done and how I was going to send it to Annabelle, he said that the Swifts had been Annabelle contacting me and all of Annabelle's joy was being transferred to me in that moment on that rooftop through the Swifts.
