I keep forgetting how old the book is.
Yeah and they just explode and they have such insane lives that the only thing they do that isn't either him out kicking a football or her being on stage or plugging a record is speaking to each other on the phone.
So that must have been very grounding.
She says at one point she doesn't even know where she is and like she always has to ask for a room and a window in her teller room just so that she can see daylight.
Yeah.
And it's funny because this struck me as it's possibly a familiar pattern because it's something that like I identified with as well as someone whose husband was really involved in the wedding.
But I just I think thought about it more.
So she's really talking about the build up to the wedding, what she's planning, the Vera Wang dress, blah, blah, blah.
Whereas he's just like, yeah, the wedding was happening.
And then he spends ages on the wedding, like about the like speeches.
men get really fixated on wedding speeches i think where women are like sure it's a part of like 100 things that happened in the day but for the men it's like the only thing they had to do i just found that really interesting it's kind of the one time where we were getting different sides to the same story which i loved yeah i liked it too i also found that like just before that when he's like it was really hard for victoria going from being like a spice girl to just being like at home with the baby and it was lonely for her and that's like a paragraph for him but for victoria that's like a lot like you know
pretty big chunk the shock I went from from working in a normal office job and then living in the same house with the same friends and just not being in an office job and being at home with a baby was like you know anyone who's done that will know how difficult that is so to go from being like Madison Square Garden to being in a flat in Manchester while your husband's out all day kicking a ball and I feel like a part of me would be like I know you're earning millions of pounds from being a soccer player but like you're fucking kicking a ball around all day like get a real job like I know how spiteful I get about that
And I think it's one of the reasons she's so pissed off at Geri because I think Geri left her around right when she was pregnant.
And so she was possibly looking at Geri's solo career and thinking, well, you tanked the band and now I'm stuck at home.
And she's constantly referencing throughout, like the other girls have all released singles already.
I haven't released a single.
Like she's always looking outward at other people's success and
Jerry got to number one and Emma only got to number two and she's giving all these details on the other girls like record sales and stuff and like I don't blame her for it it's something we all do but like she's just always comparing herself to other people but it's like really detrimental if she's doing it this much in the book imagine how much she's doing it like in her mind of course oh of course of course and also why the wedding does become such a big deal to you because that's the thing that's your momentum that's your next concert or whatever for her
And she says that like, yeah, it's my big thing.
And like, what's fascinating is, and it was such a big deal, this wedding, like over here, like for context, like at the time in the UK, people broke out into fights and newsagents, like trying to get their hands on this magazine, right?
