So we have the protagonist pretending that he's never seen a camel before to please the professor.

But we know, we the reader, because of interiority, we know that he has seen a camel before and that he just is in the business of pretending.

They arrive at a resort and they're sunbathing and the professor is reading.

And our protagonist is like, I'm going to go into the water.

And the professor wants to go with him, but he clearly wants to be alone.

So he goes into the water and he's in the water and he's observing people, observing another couple and wondering if the young man in the couple is there yet.

in the same capacity that he is, meaning someone who is pretending to want to be there, pretending to love the other person, or if they're actually a couple, like a mutual romantic couple.

And then while he's in the water, he knows he has to go back, but he really doesn't want to.

He sees the professor talking to someone else and his heart just starts racing and he goes to them because he thinks he recognizes this person, but then he doesn't.

When he gets there, he realizes that it's not really Johnny.

Yeah, so that's what happens.
