They just felt defeated.
They didn't feel like there was an answer.
A lot of this thing, when we were doing evacuations, I mean, obviously people were thankful we were doing evacuations, but a lot of service members were like, thank you.
It just gave some kind of validation and value that something was getting done.
That's how it started for me.
I mean, I didn't go to Afghanistan, nowhere to draw to do this massive rescue.
We went to get Aziz.
Aziz did eight deployments with me.
I was a singleton AFO, so I worked by myself with Aziz living out where the Taliban wasn't.
And so Aziz saved my life multiple times.
I lived in his home.
I played soccer with this kid.
I held his babies when they were born.
So he's family to me.
So initially it was to go get Aziz.
And then during the process of building a team to go get Aziz,
we watched what was unfolding.
We said, hey, let's get as many interpreters, Americans, women, children, as many vulnerable people as we can.
And then just, I mean, honestly, like I've said this before, God orchestrated a miracle because we were, I'm not capable of pulling off.
Like, I know you gave me accolade for that, but I'm not capable of pulling it off.
