So there is reason to think that the picture is not quite as totally fixed as DSA's.

Yeah, I think that's a very live debate in the Democratic Party right now.
I mean, you see people like Gavin Newsom, who is sort of arguing that DSA should be welcomed into the Democratic coalition and that the party should really be in the business of addition and not subtraction, as he put it.
You know, that this is an energized constituency that has really tapped an energy and particularly a younger energy that the Democratic Party has really struggled to tap.

Right.
Like they have sort of figured out how to appeal to these people who, you know, this really kind of broad discontent with the state of the country right now.
And this is a basically a net positive for the Democratic Party.
This line of argument goes that if you can figure out how to bring these people in as real coalitional partners, that you know, this is really to the good of the broader party.
Mm-hmm.
But critics of the DSA, kind of a mix of some of the reform-minded Democrats and also a lot of people who are really just ideological moderates, you know, they argue that this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the DSA and its project, that this is not an organization that sees itself as part of that coalition.
That their relationship with the Democratic Party is really not additive.
Yeah, it's actually parasitic.
Meaning what?
Well, to this point, they have not proven capable of flipping really any seats anywhere in this country.
The only places they've won in elections have been very safely blue districts or cities, which they've succeeded in making more lefty than they were before.
And so the argument that is sort of most pointedly made about them is what exactly are you guys doing for us?
You talk about revitalizing.
