They've had a couple of times getting to Game 7s and losing, I think, like four or five times since then a Canadian team has gotten to Game 7 and lost.
There's a couple of reasons why they've kind of lost in prominence.
Like in 1993, there were 24 teams and eight were Canadian.
There's 32 teams now and seven are Canadian.
So there's just more teams generally.
So it may be harder for a Canadian team to emerge just by the law of averages alone.
There's like a tax thing where like the Canadian players based in Canada would have to pay more tax than say in Florida, for instance, where there's been this big boon in Floridian hockey, like it's in the Florida Panthers have won two recently, the Lightning won, I think two as well in the last five years.
So,
That's kind of an advantage that maybe some American teams have that the Canadian teams don't.
But it just always catches my eye that the Canadians are one of the great franchises in US sports generally.
I think until the Yankees won in the early noughties, they had the most titles of any franchise in the big four sports.
Actually, we were talking about sports books and bits and bobs yesterday.
There's a really good sports book called The Game by Ken Dryden, who was the Canadiens goalkeeper in the 70s.
They won four in a row and it's kind of just like, it's like Eamon Dunphy only a game.
It's just like what the life is like of an NHL hockey player that I would really recommend people reading.
But just wanted to flag that again.
It's just a bizarre note in my kind of sports watching that the Canadian teams have struggled so much to get over the line and
They're 2-1 down in the Eastern Conference finals, so it doesn't look like it might necessarily come this year, but I'd be rooting for the Canadians.
