Then you're like, ah, the song's pretty much done.
And you're like, oh, it's a really nice session.

We didn't write a bridge.
It's all for an afterthought.
So today I want to understand how the bridge evolved, where it's going, and what it says about why we love pop music.
In a lot of these episodes, we've had to go back to the age of the great American songbook Tin Pan Alley, which of course has been a delight for me.
And to understand the bridge, I feel like we also have to return to that era, the 1920s, the 1930s, because a lot of these songs have a bridge.
In fact, sometimes it was called the release, which I feel like says something about what this function actually is.
And you find them over and over again, right?
