For example, I was in a
a boxing club there in Fibsburg there very recently, a Korean boxing club with under 300 members.
They've developed, you know, got a wonderful facility which they've leased and they're doing great work in the community but they have actually never applied to the Community Sports Facilities Fund.
because they didn't feel that... They didn't have the information.
And that's the case, particularly in many boxing clubs across the country.
For sure.
And I want to try and address that and see them supported.
Yeah, no, and we need to be doing more in this space and it is something we're targeting.
So, for example, Sport Ireland has recently become a statutory consultee in the planning process.
So whenever planning plans are being developed now,
And by law, local authorities have to engage with Sport Ireland to input.
And they've over the last number of years as well collected a lot of data in terms of where there are particular gaps in facilities.
And that's something we want to see fed in to local authorities.
And then in terms of the engagement that we are fostering between departments, it's about trying to make sure that that is a key consideration in relation to local authorities.
For example, it was a one year.
GEA Club there a few months ago, where as part of the planning conditions on the granting of planning permission for a new housing estate, beside the GEA Club, they were required to donate land to the GEA Club to develop a new pitch.
And that is the type of thing we need to see become more commonplace in relation to how we plan and step out.
new development, building new communities, making sure that sporting opportunity and sporting facilities are as intrinsic to that as the actual building of the houses themselves.
And listen, this is something that Minister James Brown is very much aware of, and that's why he's taken this step as well to make sure that Sport Ireland is a statutory consultee now where plans are being developed because we need to see integrated thinking here.
So I think the awareness piece, and that's why I've been, you know, I'm trying to get the message out as much as possible for people to think ahead and plan ahead.
