We asked Professor Megan Bussey from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in the US to help us with the sums.

Using just these indicators, Megan found that the US should come top with 51 medals, followed by China, Japan and Germany.

Britain should come eighth with 32 medals.

It's probably not the best way to predict what will actually happen.

If you look at who won what at the last Olympics, quite a number of countries got far fewer or far more medals than our model would have predicted.
