Um my notion of gender is really based on

uh being able to make a distinction between

Biological reproduction

which has certain material conditions

And

social reproduction, which I call engendering

which is governed by a bunch of social norms that are

um quite different from the material conditions.

So in other words

Uh from a biological point of view, reproduction can be successful or not successful.

And it can be successful or not successful based on certain material conditions.
