I guess I would say similar to how it's hard to prosecute cults unless there are other serious crimes associated.
We've seen it with NXIVM and One Taste and even Heaven's Gate where things like tend to operate in this gray area before anything legally actually sticks.
I also can't help but to think of the long-term ramifications of the relationships you then have with your parents, because a lot of these families were born into this religion and they are forcing their kids to participate and perpetuate and uplift the same ideals of this religion.
