I saw this woman re it and and it had silver writing and I'd say Oh, wild swans.

You'd be able to pick it 'cause you were in it and you were surrounded by books in the bookstore.

And I loved it.

So then when I went to publishing I didn't like it so much because I lost that contact uh with readers and I lost the flexibility in the movement.

I mean, people don't realise how much of a profession a retailer or bookseller is.

It really is.

you get good ones and you get bad ones, but a lot of them are just so good and it was it's work, you know.

And I loved it.

I loved that interaction.

Yeah, so I did that and then when I went to publishing I decided I don't like publishing that much.

Although I've got to tell you it did teach me about the whole cycle though.

It really was an education.

in how books are made because before that I was just the end product, right?

We were just the booksellers.

Well not just the booksellers, I loved it.

But you know, we were on the other side and I really didn't know the process.

I knew a little bit, but I didn't know how books became books, how stories became books.

So that was a real education.

And then that led me to my next job, which was the government funding Books Alive.

which I did for seven fabulous years.
