We still have this idea that it is a romantic gesture for a father to walk his daughter down the aisle and the minister to say, who giveth this woman to this man?

We give away property.

We're still giving our daughters that we own to her next owner, her husband.

I think that women are still seen as property in this country.

And I think that's why we don't necessarily do what we need to do or take the resources necessary to protect them and prevent femicide from occurring at the rate that it does today.

So when we talk about this type of inequality, we also have to look at the fact that women are not voting in a way that is for their best security.

I tend to be pessimistic about these things.
