And the reason I thought I might be able to do this is because for years, I have been one of these travel obsessives who is constantly reading frequent flyer blogs, reading about sort of how to play the credit card games to maximize points, racked up a bunch of miles that I thought I could then burn and use on this.
And I thought I could just fly into New York in the morning on points, stay at a nice points hotel in lower Manhattan.
There's a place called the Beekman.
It's part of Hyatt that I love.
And then I thought I'd fly home.
But it, of course, turned out to be way more complicated.
Things would come up.
I'd have to sort of stay late for a story or I'd need to stay an extra day for a meeting or a friend's birthday or whatever it might be.
And so I was constantly changing my plans and realizing I was oftentimes in New York four or five days anyway.
And so this all just got a lot more complex than maybe I initially expected.
Yeah, I felt like I spent so much time on the phone with airlines over the past year trying to just get a new flight.
Oftentimes I'd book flights on miles that could be canceled last minute for not a problem, so I would just do that.
Then you're in the challenge of having to rebook something.
There may not be something at a lower mile price.
It just ends up being...
And so the time it took to do all this really can't be overstated.
There was a lot of calls to airline customer service lines.
There were a lot of chats with various representatives.
And it was just me trying to figure out, okay, I can't go today.
How do you then get back a few days later?
