Now, there's two reasons, possibly one of two or even both reasons for that.

One is he hasn't got anything that's specific.

any ideas um or he's avoiding saying them because we you know we just don't know but i think he can borrow a bit more not a huge amount but if he's going to start taxing people more then he's also got to be extremely careful it's a very fine line he has to tread

Andy Burnham is famous for having said when he was mayor of Manchester that Britain should no longer be in hock to the bond markets.

I'm sure that he regrets saying that because Britain is in hock to the bond markets.

So are lots of countries, by the way.

And Liz Truss found out to her cost what that meant.

I mean, the point about Liz Truss was that a lot of her policies weren't bad.

What she was trying to do was drive growth.

um and she took her foot off the brake and she she accelerated with um you know lots of measures designed to drive growth the problem was that she had no she'd not costed she not worked out how she was going to pay them pay for them they were unfunded and the bond market sensed that and the cost of borrowing went through the roof

I mean, she lasted, what was it, 49 days in power.

Well, you know, just because Andy Burnham's got 400 Labour MPs behind him does not mean that the same won't happen to him.

Yeah, I mean, it's a very good question.

And there's this word that people are now becoming very familiar with, which is Manchesterism.

But Manchesterism, which has become a sort of code for Burnhamism, Manchesterism...

wasn't founded by Andy Burnham.

It was created by two very visionary local government leaders in Manchester, Howard Bernstein and Richard Leese.
