By the time he left home, those qualities were deeply set.
Even as a young bloke, Neil had worked something out.
If the moment was there, you took it, you played on.
He wasn't a kid who stood back and waited.
He stepped in and lived it.
Back then, his world wasn't complicated.
It was about family, work ethic, sport, music, laughter, and being part of things.
He found joy in the moment.
He leaned into life exactly as it came.
That's how he was even back then.
And to us, that's what we remember the most from those early years.
In recent days, we've heard Neil described as a hero, a legend, courageous and brave, and he was all of those things.
But to us, he was simply a brother.
A beautiful brother, a little boy, a determined look on his face, flexing on the beach with a whole life in front of him.
The one who laughed with us, he teased us, gave us advice, whether we asked for it or not, and always stood beside us.
We'll never forget the sound of his big, unmistakable laugh, his quick wit, and that mischievous spark that made him so uniquely Neil.
Neil Danaher needs little introduction to Bomber fans.
