Stablecoins are having their day in the sun.
For us, it feels like after building this business for the last five years, it feels good that the markets finally recognize this improvement in payments technology.
But at its core, stablecoins were really designed to bring stability and predictability to crypto, addressing this kind of high volatility issue.
that you see with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, but they are quite different to Bitcoin and Ethereum.
They're generally designed to maintain stable value, typically pegged to a fiat currency like the US dollar.
And you obviously see, you know, mostly 99% of stablecoins in circulation are US dollars, but you do find the Euro stablecoin issued by Circle, etc.
And to that, they allow
Or the better way to think about it is they bring the efficiency of a block of blockchain technology to traditional currency.
So hence me talking about stable coins is almost and stable coins running on blockchains is this infrastructure upgrade to payments.
There's generally three types of stable coins.
You get the fiat backed stable coins, which are the ones we all know and the ones we probably hear about the most.
These are the tethers of the world, the circle of a world.
You get crypto collateralized or crypto backed stable coins.
And these are stable coins that are designed to hold their peg one to one with the dollar, but ultimately underlying is not dollars in a bank account or dollars in a treasury.
It's actually backed by cryptocurrency, you know, other cryptocurrency and various mechanisms they use.
