You know, look Pavel Dorafev signed a a seven year deal at eleven million with the Rangers th this season.

That that contract included buying two restrictive free agent years.

This one only is one RFA year and you know, obviously the Leafs really love the player and and I think that the bet is is clear.

It's one where you've seen a number of teams

make uh in the last few months that that the cap is going to keep jumping to a point where you know this isn't gonna be an issue for for them long term, that it's not gonna look maybe not gonna carry the sticker shock it might in real time as as the years go by.

So you know the the contract doesn't even start until uh next July first.

So the twenty seven-twenty eight season obviously goes well into the twenty thirties, you know, really secures Marchenko as kind of part of this team's core

with with Neilander, you know, I'm sure they hope to extend Austin Matthews when they get the chance to have him be part of it.

And so um yeah, it's a big number, but we've seen a lot of big numbers uh thrown around the NHL really since the the Leal Carlson offer sheet.

And so, you know, I think we're all just adjusting essentially to the the new to new uh realities in the NHL.

Well I think they they've they brought in Nick Blankenberg and and you know, got him signed to a contract and and ultimately felt comfortable.

And as I mentioned, I mean part of it is is the

the the number of bodies had the match going in and out and obviously that the cap uh uh restrictions also had to to line up.

So you know Andre, I mean it's it's hard to be too critical of the guy.

He was technically a leaf for for two weeks of practices and a couple of preseason games.

But you know, he wasn't gonna be you know, regardless of the trade or not, he wasn't gonna be in the the lineup tomorrow.

He was, you know, didn't crack their top six, you know, coming out of camp.

So you know, I just think

He was expendable from the leaf send of things.

They did backbill his position by signing Blankenberg from his pro tryout agreement yesterday.
