So he's very much like Jamie Oliver, who obviously I I dislike, and I dislike Stevenson for similar reasons.

You know, he's just you in my view, he's using up a lot of media bandwidth with a stupid idea, which isn't gonna happen.

You know, Harold Wilson um was gonna do a wealth tax in the nineteen seventies, but even that Labour government looked at it and went, This isn't worth the effort.

And and so have loads of countries.

You know, the 12 OECD countries and

The 1980s had a wealth tax.

There's only three of them now, because most of them just decided it wasn't an effort.

And of the three, one of them's uh Switzerland, which doesn't have inheritance tax, the other's Norway, which doesn't have capital gains tax, and the other's Spain, which has such a a weak wealth tax, it doesn't really raise any money, it's just symbolic.

Um so this is an idea that has been tried and hasn't been pursued.

Not because governments have all

Become neoliberal, you know, bootlickers of billionaires, just because it's really impractical.

It has terrible distortionary effects that drive away investment and ultimately harm the economy.

It's incredibly bureaucratic if you think about it.

You've got to work out how much wealth people have.

Well, that has been proposed as well, sort of uh alongside the wealth tags.

And the trouble is, even when people talk about this, even when it's suggested by someone like Andy Burnham, people start packing their bags.

You know, just the rumor that it might happen has a has a bad effect on on the economy.

So it's a daft idea.

He's not a serious person, uh fundamentally.

I I d he's obviously not a completely stupid person by any means.
