When Michael Jackson was a kid, his father beat him.
He really did.
And then when he became an adult, the physical abuse turned to emotional abuse.
And when Michael was at the top of his game, releasing Off the Wall and Triller and coming out with this incredible pop music, his father was in the background saying, you're not good enough.
You need your brothers and you need me.
And so it tries to, I say tries to, explore that trouble dynamic.
But it doesn't really do a good job of it.
It's all surface level stuff.
And it ends eventually in 1984 after the Jacksons.
And we're not really spoiling anything here.
All of this stuff really happened.
But the story does wrap up in this film in 1984 when Michael Jackson decided, that's it.
I'm finished with the brothers now.
This is our last tour and I'm going to go off and do my own thing.
But there is a tacked on bit in 1988 that closes the film with a reconstructed concert footage of the Bad Tour in London.
Now, again, this isn't a spoiler.
This thing has been reported all over the world over the last few days that the film doesn't end with a to be continued, but it ends with the words, his story continues.
Now, that kind of made me laugh.
It's open to interpretation.
And I think what the filmmakers are trying to say is, yes, we know we didn't get to any of the stuff that potentially we should have.
