As she fails to dodge each blow, pain wracks her entire body, finally letting out a yelp.
Her mother turns off the training protocol and shakes her head.
Disappointing.
I thought you would have had the Kalos talent.
As the lights are shut off, Ophelia is alone in the dark training room, and a tiny pit inside her grows.
On the left side of the room, Pixel becomes tiny, heading home to a small town in the dusty canyons on Cherix, hundreds of miles from the nearest city, and even further from the glittering metropolis of Paradise City.
she pedals hard riding her bright pink hover bike finally arriving at her front door she opens it and her father is expectedly passed out drunk in his reclining chair her mother screamed at her for arriving back after sundown pixel ignores her and goes to her room turning on loud poppy music and thumbing through a flashy magazine celebrating celebrities of cheryx in the galaxy
She dreams of being a star and takes down song ideas in her digidiary.
This happens nightly, except for the times when her mother would have brief moments of lucidity and would come into Pixel's room to comfort her and sing her a lullaby.
A familiar lullaby.
But she knows...
But she knows neglect and cruelty too well and too regularly, and the pit inside her forms.
On the day she leaves her small town, all that's left behind is a note that says to thine own self, be true.
She arrives in Cherix with big eyes and even bigger dreams, but they are swiftly crushed.
Soon she's staring at herself in the mirror after a shift dancing at a club.
She wipes her makeup off and the emptiness in her is larger than ever.
The powder didn't fill it.
The pills didn't fill it.
The attention, the notes, none of it filled the abyss inside her.
Then a shadow crosses the doorway to the dressing room.
