And those guys were really holding on to this attitude that they started it and it forever.
They are that little clique that started it.

from Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Rey, and then it changed to contest.
And that's when it really changed.
And then the equipment became more focused.
And then now it became the new amateurs turning pro.
And then now tricks, the trick era came in.
What can you do?
It's not just a front side air, an invert, and a back side air.
It's now judos and
finger flips and you know of course tony hawk is a huge you know um inventor of so many tricks because he was just doing tricks on the daily right you know what i mean at del mar skate park we were skating ramps because there were no skate parks we were skating uh whittier skate park but there was really no other skate parks in our area
And so we went to backyard ramps.
We traveled around.
That's when the ramp era started, the NSA contest.
And that really did push skateboarding into the trick era where it was just tricks, 45 seconds of just what can you bring in.
And for me, because I was the high-flying kid at Marina Del Rey, I just went and did high airs, and no one could really do them at the time.
And so that was what I brought.
Tony did the tricks.
And we really weren't the best yet.
