There was no parents in skateboarding.
At the contests, you know, the kid would come, get dropped off.
Parent may watch, but they weren't a part of it.
They didn't want their kids to skate back then.
You know what I mean?
It was just too much of a rough and kind of like a culture to where it wasn't deemed professional until what Olsen said, the mid-80s, when money came in.
and then they were like whoa these kids you know i remember going to my school because i dropped out of school you know 10th grade to be a professional skater but i went back like literally the next i think semester to go visit my teachers and i walked in you know i'm a professional skateboarder and they're like hey this is christian so this is my student he makes way more money than me that's how she introduced me why are you going back to like yeah you
It was a reunion with those teachers that really cared about us.
I went to a dope school.
It was called Area D Alternative School.
Like Solo Scott went there.
Some of the Venice Heads went there because it was some artist kids went there.
And it was like an alternative school.
So it was small, 300 kids, kindergarten through 12th grade.
So it was real tiny.
So the teachers could have personal relationships with the kids.
You spent a lot of time there throughout your career.
Only seventh through ninth grade.
Oh, that's it.
I think 10th grade I dropped out.
