I was shocked how when I go to a conference, I thought that this would be the place that people would not give two craps
about that was on a reality show, but it is more often than not, like I'm having a conversation about some research topic and they're like, by the way, can we talk about Survivor now?
I'm like, sure, yeah, absolutely, why not?
But it draws people in in a lot of different ways.
I mean, there's an obvious, you know, like social science element to it that is of course a big deal.
I mean, you're dealing with a bunch of people who are strangers.
I mean, the show is billed as a social experiment, if you will.
And as a result, like you're curious how these people interact from from all over, you know, the all over the world, all over the country, I should say.
But it's interesting to think about it also as like an actual science experiment you can interrogate because, you know, the people you select for the show, for instance, are kind of like they're not randomly selected.
from around the world.
We are cast as characters.
And so you start to kind of butt up against like, what is the science of being on the show that's a social experiment?
Who will win in this game of wits on an island versus what is it actually like to be with a bunch of kind of strangers who are, but are cast on the show because, you know, they might be good TV.
Anyway, I love that stuff.
That's why I went on the show.
I think if I were to focus on maybe one thing,
is the skepticism angle with you guys.
I mean, so much of the show is about voting people off and having plans to vote people off that may be true or not true and how you interrogate those concepts.
And it really does drive to mind the need to get rid of a lot of your biases in terms of what you think.
And one thing, and I'm curious, I'm sure you guys have covered the science of lying and lie detection, I'm assuming, many times over the years, right?
