Anyway, because Sondheim had seen me in Midsommar.
I auditioned for Sondheim.
I don't know what I sang, but I got a role in Sunday, playing the woman in the center of the painting, and I had a wonderful scene with Bernadette.
Anyway, Mike Nichols saw that production, and he wanted me to do the real thing.
And then the rest, as they say, is history, because The Real Thing was a solid gold hit.
And then I had the pleasure of working with Tom Stoppard, Mike Nichols, and Stephen Sondheim in one year.
Who gets that?
That was 84.
And I also got married.
And got pregnant within that 12-month span.
I've never been able to top that one.
No, he was Oswald to my Regina in Ghosts.
And he was this eccentric man.
Utterly dreary.
venereal disease and of course i was the pert maid um i played what i call those soubrette roles but there was this eccentric actor i remember he had wire glasses that were he wore when he was motorcycling and they dangled from his ear he had this long blonde hair and and he talked sort of
like he was Irish or something, but I remember him smoking these unfiltered cigarettes, and he drove a motorcycle.
And one night, we became kind of friendly.
I thought he was terribly exotic, but sexy.
And he asked if I wanted to ride home on his motorcycle.
And I don't even like driving in cars.
