So loving writing, keeping that daily, you know, um diary, even if I wrote nothing happened today, which is sometimes I did, and then the next day it says nothing happened today either.
But I kept my I was the Cal Ripkin of diary writers, right?
I kept my streak.
So what did I learn as a ten, eleven year old?
The discipline of writing every day, even if it was a sentence that was ridiculous.
Um, but most sentences I have my spelling words one day, my mom said, Just put your all your spelling words in there, what your math problem was today, you know, that kind of stuff.
So I learned that.
Uh, loved sports, loved writing.
About sophomore year of high school, a good friend who went to Northwestern actually, a year ahead of me.
Um, so she was a junior in high school.
She said, Hey, I think Northwestern is a really good journalism school.
I knew Northwestern 'cause they played at Michigan, watched them play football when they were good, actually.
Um, with Alex Agassiz and and Maury Dagno and a couple other, you know, names from the past with Northwestern football.
So I knew Northwestern.
Mom and Dad were both from the south side of Chicago.
Of course Northwestern's north side and Evanston.
And it just made perfect sense just to follow my dreams and it's just all, you know, from there it really it really it it it's not simple at all for a girl to have this kind of uh opportunity in the seventies, late sixties and seventies.
But I did, but within that, it was like just I was launched into the career.
of my dreams, you know, just this is the greatest thing ever.
And all these years later, 45 years, unbelievable.
