Interesting one.
If you think for centuries, science has at times aligned with and fought against religion, government, establishment, and even itself.
But when the sticky-up nail confronts historic theories and shouts change, it gets hammered.
So who were these histories' confrontationists, the groundbreakers of science and medicine, the ones whom we owe so much?

So really what he should have done was cure egos before he tried to cure the disease of child bed fever.
We have to assume that this particular fever was cured and they found out how and why this was occurring.
So does Semmelweis get the credit or does he actually pop his clogs before this all comes to fruition?
