And the second point, which let's get it out of the road at the start, we're like i we we're describing it as an oral history project.
But this is the oral history of the troubles and this is by the people who took part in the troubles.
People were given these oral
Interviews about their role in the troubles, but basically they were confessing to serious crime, including killing people.
Yeah.
Some of which they may have been convicted for.
Many of which not.
So there's the obvious difficulty there in that you're asking people to confess to crime.
And the people centrally involved in it, uh who were veteran journalist Ed Maloney and former IRA prisoner turned academic Anthony McIntyre.
I mean
I well first how d uh w we can we can get to how they got involved, but but let's be clear, they felt that the secrecy provisions were ironclad.
Lanthny Markintar he he conducted the interviews, as you said, there with the former Republican paramilitaries himself.
And East Belfast man, Wilson MacArthur, he was selected to conduct the Loyalist Paramilitary interviews.
Funny enough we don't hear much of him again in the story.
Dozens of paramilitaries took part, including ex IRA members Brandon Hughes, Lores Price, Richard O'Raw, and former UVF man David Irvine, later of the PUP, and ex Red Hand Commando member Winston Winky Ray.
Our grandchildren and great grandchildren might find out.
