I'm joined by Robin Schiller, news and security correspondent with the Irish Independent.

Robin, you're very welcome to the Belltale.

Thanks for having me on, Ciarán.

Robin, two people have been charged in relation to a suspected new IRA bomb plot.

Those people are innocent, of course, until they're proven guilty.

But it has thrust the new IRA into the spotlight.

Can you remind us, and I'm sure our regular listeners have heard this many times, but who are the new IRA?

And they had from the beginning, I know I said in the introduction, in people's imagination, especially in Belfast, you would associate the new IRA with Derry and the Cregan estate and with the murder of Lyra McKee.

But from the very beginning, they had a presence in Dublin.

So the violence was there from the very beginning, including fratricidal violence.

Dissident Republican Peter Butterly was 35.

He was shot dead in Gormanstown in County Meath in 2013.

And Mr. Braney was connected with that?

The murder of Adrian Ismay in Belfast, many people will remember that the new IRA carried out that attack.

That was in March 2016.

Adrian Ismay was a prison officer and he died after a baby trap bomb was detonated beneath his van.

He died, many people will remember this,

As I said, 11 days after suffering a heart attack in hospital.

Two months later, the Gardaí seized a considerable bomb on Dublin's Nace Road that was also linked to the organisation.

You mentioned Michael Barr earlier.
