So today for our third episode of the Hamatpoesis, we're going to be talking about a topic that a lot of trainees might be less familiar with from medical school, which is clinical research.

So the overall goal of our episode is to define what constitutes clinical research, what a career in clinical research as a hematologist might look like, and how trainees can start getting involved in clinical research early in their careers.

To kick off our discussion, just to make sure that we are all on the same page, there's a wide spectrum of types of research that constitute clinical research.

So can you kind of describe the type of studies that you've been involved in and what kind of falls under this topic?

That's great advice.

I know sometimes as a trainee, you know, you have so much on your plate focused on learning your clinical content, doing well in rotations and then yeah, it's the extracurricular research stuff that sometimes slides off the to do list.

So I feel like you're touching a lot on what's so exciting about incorporating clinical research into your career, getting a little bit into more of the nitty-gritty.

What does your day-to-day look like compared to someone who maybe has more of a purely clinical practice?

So at the point where people are applying to fellowship, they've probably written lots of personal statements, but there's a transition in tone from applying to medical school and residency and finally fellowship.

So what should trainees consider in terms of the differences of the personal statement when applying to fellowship?

What information should they really focus on conveying?
