And when I read that I thought, I underlined that and I thought, yeah, that's the way I want to write.

I want to write with the minimum of fuss.

Because to me grown-ups are people who don't make a big fuss over something small.

And people who are attention-seeking make a big deal over something that's small.

And that one is classy and the other one is the opposite.

So that was just one of the things.

And also, the summer of 95 was really hot in Cardiff.

We all used to sit out and, you know, we could probably afford one beer on a Saturday.

You'd sit out nursing your beer in the park and we all did.

And I suppose that the story is dear to me.

Also, Ian McEwan, who wrote this story, is not known for his stories.

He wrote another collection.

When I read... I read every story in that collection that day.

And when I was finished, I went and got the second collection, which is called In Between the Sheets.

And I read all of those.

And...

I don't know, it somehow armed me with something that I could go off and use, or put to good use somehow, and I didn't know why.

But it felt brand new to me then.

I hadn't...
