I suppose part of it is for nostalgic reasons.

It's called The Last Day of Summer and I read this story when I was in Cardiff.

I had gone to Cardiff in 94, 94, 95 to do a master's in creative writing.

There was no creative writing postgraduate program in Ireland at that time.

So I went to Cardiff and I had a good year.

I lived off 33 pounds a week.

Well, I lived well, believe it or not.

Those are the days.

It was an Indian grocery down the road and I got cookbooks from the library.

And I did very well.

But I also got a book called First Love, Last Rights by Ian McEwan, which is a collection of stories.

And I read it, and I'd never read anything like that before.

And I came across this story, which is told from the point of view of a young boy in summer.

And he lives in a house where there are no parents.

They've been killed in a car crash.

And you just get the feeling that nobody's being minded properly at all.

And this young woman comes into the house, and she starts just cleaning up the kitchen, and she makes a curry, and she moves the table out, and then she gets him to clean up his bedroom.

And he has a little boat, and he lives near the river.

There's a river at the end of the garden.

And he starts taking her down to the river.
