Flexibility.
That is above and beyond the most desired benefit, whether that's flexible leave that can be used to help with caregiving duties, but being able to have a flexible or remote – for those who are on the scene –
They could have a remote schedule or hybrid schedule, but flexibility is really key because caregiving with older adults can come up unexpectedly.
It could be a fall that results in hospitalizations or, again, a diagnosis of a condition, and so it can come up really unexpectedly.
Others are like cash subsidies for care, and it's sort of the reimbursed care or paid leave specifically for caregivers.
One company was offering its employees a chance to put their parents or adults on their insurance or providing two weeks of paid leave to care for an immediate family member, you know, not just children.
They're giving it more of a priority.
They're seeing that they need to attract and retain younger workers so they'll offer the child care.
They're seeing that caregiving is across all ages and across all generations important.
They're beginning to prioritize it.
About half of employers that were surveyed recently said that they would put senior care, elder care, prioritize it this year.
And that is up from like 43% just a year ago.
So they're seeing it in their workers.
A lot of companies don't collect data or survey workers about their caregiving responsibilities.
And I think more are going to start doing that so they can see and be aware of
that this is something that a lot of the workers are dealing with.
For most of them, it's the Family Medical Leave Act, which is required by law for bigger companies, but it may not be what they need because that's
12 weeks of unpaid leave.
And what they really need are a few hours a week.
Otherwise, if they can work things out with their supervisor, arrange when they can be in the office, you know, some people will start their day at 6 a.m.
