They are often buying the medicines and passing them on.
And we saw some of these new treatment centers that are being constructed and they're quite brilliant.
You know, they have like a toboggan system so the family can stand at a distance and put things down the chute to
reach their loved ones.
They have these plexiglass screens or plexiglass walls in the rooms of each patient that allow the doctors to go right up, see the patient, observe them at close quarters without obviously breaking protocols around social distancing, which means that they don't have to put on that onerous PPE every single time they want to interact with a patient.
The biggest needs now are to get more of these Ebola treatment centers up and running, to more effectively and cohesively centralize this contact tracing system.
They need to get more of these test kits, although they have made progress on that front, more of these mobile labs available.
set up in some of these rural clinics to test or to confirm whether someone has Ebola or not.
Previously, it was taking up to a week.
Now it's taking about a day.
Their goal is to get to two hours.
I do feel that there has been a real surge, though, and the coordination has improved enormously.
And the government here, or the Ministry of Health specifically, in the DRC is saying they really hope that they should have this under control in the next three months.
This area is under emergency law, effectively.
And of course, there are many different militias in the region.
You have a lot of displaced people as well as a result of the conflict and the violence, which only makes matters more complicated and more complex for healthcare workers who are trying to fight this outbreak.
Whenever you have
communities that are itinerant, if you like, with people moving in and out of areas.
This is also, we visited yesterday, the epicenter of the virus.
It's a gold mining town.
