Um but there is a r real organized, you know, progressive slash democratic activity in Kansas.
People really want to
You know, people in these groups really want to see things done.
To me, it's very reminiscent of if you recall, like
the enthusiasm and energy kind of behind the Tea Party movement back in, you know, the early uh 20 late aughts and early 20 teens against uh President Obama.
Like and it was very, it was very common on the on the left at that point to say that that was all fake.
But you know, people really were very charged up at that point.
And I think, you know, we're 15, 20 years on and people are really
Charged up again.
Right, so uh this was highlighted, this was information highlighted by Kansas Appleseed.
I I believe it's actually the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities that had released these estimates.
Their estimates were towards the end of last year that 21,000 Kansans had lost their SNAP supplemental nutrition assistance program, what it's called used to be food stamps.
Twenty one thousand Kanzans lost their food assistance, and of those twenty one thousand Kanzans, ten thousand of them were children.
And you know, it's it's important to understand that this is not necessarily that the requirements of you know for Snap changed, as in you needed to make even less money or something.
Uh the way that the Big Beautiful Bill works is that more kind of reporting requirements were put in place.
The the re the requirement that people, you know, reapply more often, verify their income.
Income more often.
In other words, just laying at adding layers of bureaucracy and challenge for people to get these kinds of benefits.
This was also something that was understood when the Big Beautiful bill was being debated and passed.
