Uh they certainly are.

So, first of all, where am I?

I'm in Palau, and how did I get here?

I flew from North America to Japan and then flew from Japan to America.

I flew uh down to Guam.

And then from Guam, I flew another couple hours here.

So just to remember how how big the US is, uh, Guam is uh just a couple hours away from here.

This is the country where which fought the Battle of Peleliu.

Uh this is where uh Pete Ellis died uh in the famous Marine in the early nineteen twenties as he was trying to figure out what the Japanese were doing here.

This was the headquarters for the entire Japanese mandate from about um they they controlled the center of the Pacific from nineteen fourteen to about nineteen forty four.

And on the same day that uh they bombed Pearl Harbor, they took the Philippines and they took Guam and they pushed the US back to Hawaii.

And that's basically what uh the Chinese would like to do, and they've put it on the record, Admiral Keating in

Well, two thousand eight, two thousand nine, said it before a Senate uh hearing that a Chinese official had said, Why don't you take Hawaii East and we'll take Hawaii West and don't worry, we'll keep it all under control.

And they're trying to uh action that.

Uh they're trying to make sure that the US is cut off from allies in Japan and in Korea and in and Australia, obviously.

And they've taken a very close look at the World War Two map, uh, as Toshi Shah's written about, if anybody's interested.

And uh part of it is through political warfare.

And so there is this major regional event happening now, the Pacific Island Forum meeting.

It has uh eighteen members, which includes Australia and New Zealand, but not the United States, even though the US is a Pacific power, uh, even though American uh Samoa and I think Wam now are associate members.

And um three of the countries recognize Taiwan, and one of them is the country that is hosting this event.
