Permanent TSB shareholders are due to vote on Thursday, July 30th on Austrian bank Bauwag's planned €1.62 billion takeover.
This suggests a finish line is in sight after the bank was put up for sale last October, though a High Court decision could still have an impact on the timeline.
If the takeover does go ahead, what would it mean for branch closures and possible staff cuts?
Irish Times Markets Correspondent Joe Brennan has been writing about this and he joins me now.

Whatever about the money, from a strategic point of view, the purchase by Balwag would be the government's preferred one because PTSB is then being bought by a bank rather than an investment fund.
And a bank is more likely, I guess, to look to grow its position in the market rather than look for a quick short-term return.
