You really don't have to talk all the time.

And

Yeah, I am worried about the way that it's going.

And it is completely down to Neil Atkinson, John Gibbons and the Anfield Rat for changing commentary.

I think you're judged by the moments.

You know, I've always said this, that it's another of Reg Guttridge's teachings, that every goal is different and is therefore unique.

And you have somehow got to try to find some unique words for the most unique,

um significant goals that you're lucky enough to to to call so if you commentate on a world cup final winner incredible amazing fantastic is not enough it's got to be more than that and um i can't remember exactly what i said when mario gertz has scored um but i i know i got it and i got him um and i know i kind of captured the moment um

And that's the key to it, really, capturing them.

And, you know, it's often said, do you prepare your lines in advance?

Well...

I mean, the answer is no, because you don't quite know how the moment's going to evolve.

But, you know, anybody has seen my sort of Instagram reels on commentary techniques.

I do have some information available to me for each player scoring a goal.

If I've got the time to prep and not all commentators have the time to prep that.

But I would hope that I wouldn't go to that in the first 10 seconds.

I hope I might actually shut the fuck up for the first seven or eight seconds if the goal is big enough and give myself some thinking time as to what what would please Reg Gutteridge coming next?

What is that headline which you can provide, which is there attached to that goal forever and a day?

And if you can then come up with that.

And then you can maybe go to your research and see whether the guy's ever scored before or whatever, anything of that nature.
