Because if you're not aware, with light, all colors equal white. Okay. the opposite is true for paint. All colors equals black and paint with pigments, but with white, you need every color in the spectrum in order to get a white light. So for decades, they only had green and red and Mormonism.

Horrible. Anyway, so for decades, people were trying to figure out how to make the blue LED. It was considered near impossible, if not impossible. The main problem primarily was they understood certain elements that would allow them to get it to emit blue, but it was nowhere near strong enough. Okay. It was just really weak. It wouldn't work.

Um, but there was this one guy from a company in Japan who was working on R and D for it. And I'm going to have a really, really brief version of this story. So I suggest you watch the Veritasium video on it, but essentially Pearson ranch sponsor us. Yeah, please.

genuine researcher in the sense that he had not been published because he had never gone to a university and you weren't allowed to be published at the time i don't know if it's still the case unless you had attended a university and had a degree depends on the journal but so he all these other people were either working on their thesis or they were working in the field and they were just kind of ignoring him because he wasn't published

And he just spent 12 days every day, every day, 12, sorry, 12 hours a day, every single day for over a year working on this machine to create a mist of crystals on a silicon disc, or no, sorry, like multiple layers of different metals in order to create a crystal to then create another crystal on top of it to be able to put it inside of an LED mechanism to create a blue LED.

And it was just trial and error, 12 hours a day, every day for over a year. He finally figured it out. And he was the guy who gave us the blue led and the company almost shut him down. And in the end he was given almost nothing. He was given almost no recognition, but he is directly responsible for

For every single smartphone screen, television screen, computer screen, these lights, every single thing that you have that has an LED in it, he is the reason that we now have them. And he has received basically no royalties from it. He did file a lawsuit at one point, and I think he won, or at least they settled. But he's still working on improving LEDs and things like that to this day. Easy.

But yeah, wild stories. Again, a really good example of if you know you're right, sometimes history can work out for you. But that is the exception, not the rule in those circumstances.
