Chapter 1: What is the main topic of this episode?

3.598 - 16.466 Matt

We were supposed to... We kind of planned to have a guest. We still might. We still might. I don't know. Why do I have no headroom? Oh, you must have been slouching.

0

17.247 - 17.367 Co-Host

Oh.

0

18.407 - 23.551 Matt

Yep. Was I? Is that possible? Could I have been slouching? I'm getting a call from Kunkeltown, Pennsylvania.

0

24.271 - 28.514 Co-Host

There's no way that's real. That's amazing. Well, you answer that call.

0

28.594 - 73.392 Matt

I'm going to answer the call from Kunkeltown. Well, he just... Hello. Hello. Hello? Hello? With what? I'm not... I know you're a scam caller, so I'm not even sorry to say... I cannot understand a goddamn word you're saying. You even gonna admit it? You gonna own up to it? You gonna be like, yes, I'm a dirty, dirty boy? I'm a little scam call slut? Hmm? Hmm? Anybody there? No? Coward. Coward.

77.875 - 80.498 Matt

Oh, that's great. Listen, man, I'm getting a call from Kunkel Town.

80.698 - 87.163 Co-Host

For those of you who are not aware of the trials and tribulations he has been going through in terms of scam calls, would you like to elaborate?

Chapter 2: What are the challenges of dealing with scam calls?

87.563 - 95.15 Matt

I literally get like two dozen a day. I don't know why. Just out of nowhere, I haven't put my phone number into anything.

0

95.683 - 95.883 Viewer

Yep.

0

96.483 - 116.409 Matt

I don't know what's going on. I just suddenly, like... I would think that they'd be too busy. What with the conflict. Which one? The one in Kashmir. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Like, it's just...

0

117.762 - 132.168 Co-Host

Like, bro, Clover, do not read it. Yeah, exactly. It's such a good video. Also, by the way, just because I'm seeing a bunch of super chats coming now, just as a reminder, we are so appreciative and we love you guys so much. And thank you so much for sending all of them.

0

132.628 - 142.052 Co-Host

However, due to the fact that we do, in fact, need to sleep and it's, again, another short week, we are only going to answer super chats up until 745, or at least they come up until 745.

143.152 - 147.754 Matt

If it comes in before 745, it will get answered. If it comes in after, it really depends.

147.894 - 151.235 Co-Host

Yes. If it's like $100,000 bajillion, then we will get it.

151.395 - 160.739 Matt

Then we'll get it, obviously. That's not encouraging you to spend more money. It's really just like when that happens, we're like, okay, well, we can't not respond to that.

160.779 - 165.581 Co-Host

We want to give proper recognition to those who give us that much money.

Chapter 3: How do recent murders connect to local lore?

230.571 - 239.812 Matt

Yeah, exactly. Dude, I would watch a dark Backyardigans... film. Like a Backyardigans horror film.

0

240.172 - 242.993 Co-Host

Somebody has to have made that YouTube video. There's gotta be a video.

0

243.013 - 244.014 Matt

I'm sure there's one out there.

0

244.294 - 260.5 Co-Host

Oh, guys, what do you think about us doing BS on a different channel where we literally just come up with random conspiracy theories and then rant about it for an hour? Like, the deep, dark truth behind the Backyardigans is actually, like, it's a representation for the Manson family? Like, makes no sense. Is not real.

0

260.52 - 270.338 Matt

Honestly, it would be... The thing we could do is we could, like, you guys could give us... conspiracy theories yes and then we have to do it

271.587 - 278.593 Co-Host

This this is this is essentially us attempting to start making up for not having done any of the donation goals.

278.693 - 278.973 Matt

Yeah.

279.434 - 280.414 Co-Host

Maybe this is how we start.

280.655 - 298.39 Matt

Yeah. Like the kind of the thought process was honestly, I would replace this show with that if you guys wanted us to. It's hard enough to figure out what to talk about each and every week. But no, if you guys give us like just, you know, random conspiracy theory ideas, we could absolutely do a show where we just improv it.

Chapter 4: What happened in the Dyatlov Pass incident?

438.95 - 439.21 Matt

We do.

0

439.23 - 443.812 Co-Host

Because there's a ton of info on that. Apparently she has literally like crates of information about it. So.

0

443.952 - 446.493 Matt

Yeah. Binders full of women.

0

447.253 - 447.433 Co-Host

Yes.

0

447.734 - 447.934 Matt

Yes.

448.394 - 448.814 Co-Host

Themselves.

448.874 - 453.976 Matt

They've been shrunken down. Bringing all of the old political stuff back. Yeah. That was a wild.

454.636 - 469.346 Co-Host

Did you hear? I think it was Kat told me today. Apparently there is a new serial killer in Massachusetts right now. I did not look into this at all, but apparently over the last month, like 20-some bodies have been discovered. Wow. Yeah. Let's look this up.

469.386 - 484.695 Matt

Let's do a live research. That's a really quick body count for a serial killer. Like he just started? Or like this has been going on for 20 years and they found 20 bodies?

Chapter 5: How does social media influence crime narratives?

720.46 - 738.575 Co-Host

But in a statement, the Bristol Plymouth High School in Taunton told WPRI there was no threat to students or staff and the building wasn't placed on lockdown. However, Myers is the 12th body to have been found since February in the New England area, fueling fears online that there could be a serial killer in the area.

0

739.036 - 741.658 Matt

That's a quick working serial killer if it is.

0

741.858 - 757.407 Co-Host

Oh, yeah. On March 25th, a separate body was found in Taunton. The individual was identified as Samuel Stovall, 51, and authorities said his death hasn't been deemed suspicious. New England law enforcement officials have so far denied these deaths are connected with a serial killer.

0

757.787 - 778.32 Co-Host

However, in early March, detectives found the body of Paige Fannin, 35, in the Norwalk River in Norwalk, Connecticut, and the body of Megan Meredith, 45, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was found on March 22nd. On March 6th, a human skull was found in a wooded area off Route 3 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and authorities have not released any further details.

0

778.78 - 794.103 Co-Host

When speaking to reporters, Hampton District Attorney Anthony D. Galluni downplayed concerns that there might be a serial killer. Quote, while online conversation around these incidents continues to grow, we urge the public to be mindful of the role social media can play in spreading fear or misinformation.

794.584 - 813.772 Co-Host

Unverified claims can compromise active investigations and contribute to a sense of chaos that does not reflect the full picture. I will say the more I read, I don't know if you're noticing this, but... This sounds like the smiley face killer phenomenon. It sounds like the situation in Austin to me. Yes, specifically that.

813.832 - 831.424 Co-Host

Because it seems like there might be a small pocket that are related, but a lot of the cases don't have relevant factors. How old was the most recent guy? Most recent guy was on... Hang on.

833.74 - 834.18 Matt

Did it say?

834.2 - 842.402 Co-Host

Yeah, I'm currently trying to find a date. It does not say a date as far as I can see about when he was found.

Chapter 6: Is there a modern serial killer trend?

1171.117 - 1177.479 Matt

If you've never been to Pittsburgh, it is at the confluence of two rivers, right? I think it's three. The Monongahela and the Allegheny?

0

1177.959 - 1179.519 Co-Host

I could be wrong. I think it's three.

0

1181.82 - 1182.42 Matt

Is there a third one?

0

1182.62 - 1183.46 Co-Host

I believe so.

0

1186.673 - 1206.691 Matt

But basically, the city is built around Fort Pitt, which is actually the spot where... I don't know why this one specific camera always, like, for a second, has trouble tracking me. Fort Pitt is the fort where they tried to do the smallpox blankets thing. It didn't work because they did not understand germ theory.

1207.372 - 1224.407 Matt

And they thought you could just... They thought smallpox would just kind of hang out for a while. It didn't. It dies after, like, I think a couple hours outside of the body. Yeah, I think it's just the two, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's the Monongahela and the Allegheny, and they form the Ohio.

1224.527 - 1229.451 Co-Host

Yep, yep. I think that was my confusion. The Ohio, I thought, was the third one. Yep.

1229.491 - 1254.517 Matt

Yeah, so Pittsburgh, it's pretty flat around Fort Pitt, and then right across the river from that on the one side is just a cliff, right? And then across the river on the other side is just another like kind of level grounded area. So the thing is, there's just so many bridges. Yeah, it's also there's a weird rumor that Pittsburgh has like the most bridges of any city in the world.

1254.537 - 1257.398 Matt

And that's just not true. I don't think it's even true in America.

Chapter 7: What are the implications of the Salem Witch Trials?

1462.469 - 1477.536 Co-Host

And she was like, you would have needed like billions of tons to have escaped in order to disperse at a level and a timeframe that would have actually been feasible for them to have experienced the system, the symptoms described in this scenario.

0
0

1478.117 - 1480.438 Co-Host

So it's just, it's not likely.

0

1480.998 - 1485.173 Matt

No. Um, Man, that was a weird one.

0

1485.834 - 1486.676 Co-Host

It was. It was a cool one.

1486.696 - 1495.83 Matt

That was one of those ones where I'm sitting there on the phone with him, and we're just kind of like talking back and forth, and we were kind of like, oh, wait a minute. Yeah, well, again, that was the thing. I think the wind was you.

1496.27 - 1512.595 Co-Host

Yeah, because I thought of whale wars. That is the reason that I thought about the wind is because I remembered that they used the they didn't use it themselves. They got it used upon them. The LRAD system. Yeah.

1513.316 - 1516.481 John

And I know it was in the whale wars guys with LRAD.

1516.961 - 1536.428 Co-Host

the Japanese whaling fleet. And this is like in 2006. Wait, does Japan have like an official whaling fleet? They call them research vessels. I don't know if it's changed, but back in the early 2000s, they had a fleet of whaling ships where they would take whales for research purposes because it was legal to take a certain number of whales for research. Mm-hmm.

Chapter 8: How do we approach fringe theories in archaeology?

1776.951 - 1779.073 Matt

I don't think it was like a, it wasn't like a blizzard.

0

1779.594 - 1779.794 Co-Host

Yeah.

0

1780.134 - 1797.769 Matt

But it would have, that's where the winds come in. It's like if there were katabatic winds, that could have caused confusion. Yeah. So what I think happened with the Dyatlov group is that they, so first of all, a piece that often gets left out of the story, they didn't just go up onto the mountainside and say, we're going to stay here.

0

1798.67 - 1819.039 Matt

it took them longer than they expected to get packed up that morning. They had to make a supply cache further down the mountain. And then they were supposed to be another like kilometer or two from where they were by the time they made camp. So they basically, this is, this is where the, the big question is, is why did they make camp right there?

0

1819.559 - 1827.243 Matt

And it's the same thing with the Camarda band group. Why did they make camp up there instead of on the tree line?

1828.587 - 1833.47 Co-Host

My only guess would be they just were exhausted and they were like, we like we physically can't.

1833.53 - 1851.893 Matt

I think it was like a kilometer back to the tree line from where they were. So that's not I mean, six tenths of a mile. It's not. If you're exhausted and cold, it's not an easy trip. Yeah. So it might have been they were just like, you know what? Whatever. It's fine. We'll we'll live. I. what doesn't get brought up is that supply cache. Yeah.

1851.913 - 1873.15 Matt

They had taken most of their supplies, everything they needed for the trip back, and they had left it what they perceived to be, I think, like basically a day from the peak they were going to. They were like, oh, it's only going to take us a day to get up there, or it might have been two days. So they brought bare minimum. They didn't need all of their supplies for the trip to go up there.

1873.57 - 1895.654 Matt

If they had brought that stuff, ironically, they probably would have survived. But they didn't. They left it behind. And so one of the questions is, all right, well, why did they go the way they did? Like, what happened here? They got lost. Like, why did they end up in the woods? Why did they try to go back up to the tent? It's because they were intending to go south, they ended up going north.
