One thing I do want to share that is relevant is an article from the New York Times.
It's titled, If You're Over 40, You're Ready to Use AI, written by a designer and a professor named Debbie Millman.
Students seem unable to resist the ease that large language models provide them to wrestle with and craft their ideas and are incapable of tolerating the discomfort of searching for language when language can be produced for them.
They also seem unwilling to stay inside difficulty long enough for the difficulty to teach them something.
There's something drug-like about using AI, not because it produces pleasure, but because it removes a particular kind of pain.
And then she has this great quote.
Before a person asks a machine to write for them, they should know what it feels like to write from the depths of their own uncertainty and identity.
Before a person lets a machine imitate their voice, they should have endured the long, uneven, often humiliating process of acquiring one.
Yeah.
And I think that's why Hank, to me, is fine.
But I understand where younger people have not had the opportunity potentially to
to fully develop their own thoughts and world without the ease of a thought being developed for them.
You're right.
I do think that's crazy.
Any original thought needs to have been earned.
