Because Venezuela's had a long history of nationalizing assets, and companies are cautious about going in for those reasons.
And and this could be seen in theory as a way to sort of cool people's nerves.
But Venezuela is still roughly where it was a year ago, just north of a million barrels a day.
Some analysts
estimate optimistically that uh the country could get back to one point five million barrels a day over a year to eighteen months.
But um for a big increase in production, getting back to three million barrels a day where production was like a decade ago.
That's gonna take several years and billions of dollars worth of investment.
Where the crisis has moved now is in fuel.
So we're talking about the big three fuels, jet fuel, diesel and gasoline.
Where Exxon's boosting its production is primarily in the Permian Basin here in Texas.
A few years ago, they bought this smaller company really big in West Texas called Pioneer Natural Resources, and that's given them sort of this huge runway to keep drilling these really giant wells.
These are four-mile horizontal laterals, and that's about 70 feet.

And they've been doing all kinds of experiments with new technologies out there.
So that's kind of where they are boosting output.
