Um yeah, this this could could really uh open the the watershed in in Germany because you know the AFD has been um has cordoned off what they used to call a cordon sanitaire or also call a a firewall.
Uh the the mainstream and legacy parties have uh tried to keep the AFD out of all civil discourse, have tried to exclude them from from yes, uh from from the political process, exclude
them from committees, uh exclude them from from uh chairing even parliaments, which is just a formal uh uh function.
Uh they've really tried to ostracize them.
And um the AFD at some point in East Germany uh realized that they were gonna have to go all the way and and start actually winning uh majorities uh because no one would ever let them prove their medal uh otherwise uh the the uh Christian Democrat Party which is like
the Rhino uh center right party in Germany under Angela Merkel and now Friedrich Merz have just uh resolved not to talk to the AFD at all, which has painted themselves kind of in a corner.
All they can do is is work together with left-wing parties like the Social Democrats right now or or the Greens.
Which is just disastrous for for a conservative Christian democratic uh policy, of course.
It turns into a a climate, gender, uh open borders, uh leftist uh cluster or whatever.
Um, and and that's uh spelling the death for Friedrich Merz's government.
He's the most unpopular chancellor there's ever been in Germany since the Second World War.
He's down at twenty percent.
Approval.
Donald Trump is twice that or more, you know.
Um, and and uh the the expectation is that if uh the AFD really takes uh power in Saxon-Anhalt on Sunday, this could also spend the uh spell the end of the Merz government.
It could uh really dissolve the the CDU or at least Friedrich Merz, who's really tied his political fortunes to this idea of a
firewall of cordoning himself off towards the right wing and only working together with left wing parties.
Yes, there are only paper ballots.
There's no voting machines allowed in Germany.
There was a an actually decision by the Supreme Court two thousand and eight ruling that electronic voting is too unsafe.
