So the people under the old system who were getting their first instance decision and making an appeal are also getting those appeals dealt with in a faster way.

And we will aim to clear those backlogs as quickly as we can as well.

But the new appeals process, and I think it's very important to remember, as of today, it's a completely different process.

In terms of the enhanced border checking, it's a 12-week process, including the appeals.

And we believe that's the fundamental changer.

It's an absolute game changer in terms of how countries deal with asylum.

Those appeals are under the old system, the system that is now gone, the system that is now closed.

The new system is the 12-week system.

The old system, the reason I said that those appeal numbers had gone up

is because under even in the old system we had deployed additional resources to first instance decision making which meant people got their answers on their first instance and then had a right to put in an appeal but that system is now closed that system is is finished because the pact is in place with all its new changes and its changes are so fundamental because it'll enable us to save in the long run for the state millions and millions hundreds of millions of pounds is what we're aiming for because we're aiming to take down the overall number of people

and the length of time they spend in the system.

And the length of time that people spend in the system, they spend effectively in what people call IPAS, is what costs the state an awful lot of money.

So the fact that we will go from a system in the past, which took years in some instances, to a system that will take 12 to 30 something weeks to give nearly everybody a decision and an appeal, that will make a huge difference.

Well, what we're doing is we're working through that backlog, obviously, now as we speak.

I don't like to give a definitive because obviously each case is individual and people have under this system that was there have individual rights of appeal and each case can take a different length of time.

But it's certainly our objective to clear that in the fastest possible period of time that we can.

But in conjunction with that, the
