District Judge Alvin Hellerstein made no binding rulings in this hearing beyond determining that a motion by Maduro's defense to dismiss charges he faces would be denied.

The U.S.

government is currently blocking Venezuela from paying Maduro's legal fees.

Prosecutors said if Maduro wants to, he can cover his legal fees with his own money.

Maduro indicated he doesn't have the funds to do that.

The defense believes Maduro deserves lawyers beyond the level of public defenders because of the amount of discovery or evidence that will have to be reviewed.

Judge Hellerstein will issue a ruling on the funding matter later.

He must also decide on a date for trial to begin.
