with nearly all the kicks.
And once they got there, they had Hugh McFadden and they had Jason McGee in there.
And I think they won eight kickouts in a row in the first half, and that was the winning and losing of the game.
So to me, they were the two big tactical changes from last year.
They went kind of man-on-man defensively, but managed to generate a plus one, which is the key, really.
Like, if you have a plus one, it gives you that...
it gives you that luxury that you're able to be aggressive in how you defend instead of passive.
And then they protected Murphy and their big men by going kind of zonal.
Now, in some cases, they had five people because Kerry were trying to drop men back to get their kickouts away quickly.
But those two things are completely opposed to what they did last year.
So, you know...
whatever Jim McGinnis said he kind of maintains that he didn't do anything wrong last year and they didn't even tweet that much yeah like at one stage in his press conference yesterday he was asked about the Gavin Mulroney thing the goalkeeper stepping up to basically play full back and he said well like you know some of that was just like Gavin Mulroney taking it on himself and I'm like
But they played their hand.
I suppose that's the thing now.
And it's not that they're definitely going to play that way this year or even if they play against Kerry again.
But they've shown that there's things that they were cut out on tactically.
Because I still maintain that Kerry's game plan was brilliant in last year's All-Ireland Final.
and totally exposed Donegal but they've shown McGuinness has shown that even if he doesn't listen to anybody unless they've won you know 40 All-Irelands or Black Belt in Judo or whatever he said
He has himself seen what everybody else saw when they looked at the All-Ireland final last year and made the corrections himself.
the 40 should go back as a league final they won't go back just one thing that wasn't hugely picked up on afterwards just looking back again last night that kind of struck me was and I don't think the possession stats in Gaelic football are necessarily that indicative of anything but in the first half yesterday
