You'd never boil a full kettle because that would cost you way more money than boiling a kettle just for your cup of tea.
So people used to get really cheap and parsimonious about this stuff.
Must be a great crack in your household.
Well, it's not, you see.
The thing is, a lot of my household, I have three daughters.
I have three daughters and they don't give a rashers what I say.
They just completely ignore me.
So there is literally no circumstance in the world that I can tell my children, could you knock a couple of minutes off your shower?
They'd look at me like I just handed them a rat sandwich.
It's not going to happen.
So a lot of this stuff is...
And I completely understand it.
It's much more aspirational than it is realistic.
They can do if you play the game properly.
I mean, there's no point in getting a smart meter and then just ignoring the fact that you have a smart meter.
But if you have a smart meter that offers you heavily discounted electricity overnight, well, then that's the time to do all your heavy lifting when it comes to your appliances, when it comes to charging an EV, if you have it.
Or a lot of smart meter tariffs will have
free energy on a Saturday or a Sunday.
And that would be the day that you charge your car from zero to full or you do your tumble drying or you put on your immersion or all these other things that kind of drain an awful lot of energy and add significantly to your bill.
So smart meters can work if you're smart about them.
