And the worst thing that you could ever do as an Irish person in the 1980s or 90s was to forget that you put on the immersion.
And I think Des Bishop made his entire career out of people forgetting to turn their immersions off.
Oh, 100%, because they just have hot water on tap all the time.
But like, if you leave your immersion on for an hour, it's around €1.10, based again on the standard unit rate of €0.35 per kilowatt hour.
If you heat your water for four hours a week, you're looking at €4.50 or thereabouts.
That's €230 over the course of a year.
just to heat water from your tank.
If you were more economical about that, you'd save yourself money.
And another thing that you might want to consider, and there's grants available for this, is to get a proper lagging jacket on your immersion tank.
A lot of people who have older houses might have them from the 1980s, 90s.

But nobody's going to boil their kettle for an hour, let's be honest, because I think the kettle would shut off.
But if you were to boil your kettle...
four or five times a day, you're looking at 40 cent a day.
Again, tiny amount of money.
But what people are going to have to do in the weeks and months and probably years ahead is to be more economical about that.
Again, when I was a student, you'd never boil a kettle
